英國文學史為英文系所必需之專業學年課程、也是最沉重且最重要的課程。由於含括的內容太多、必須從上古時期到當代文學史、所以通常以不同的時期來畫分期不同的文學史觀。同學必須將整體的領域與其相關的連貫性來了解整體課程結構。茲以下列目標來劃分文學史。1.中世紀文學史觀2.十四與十五世紀文學史3.十六世紀文學史4.文藝復興時期文學史5.十七世紀文學史6.浪漫主義文學史7.十九世紀文學史8.當代文學史9.戲劇、小說、詩文及文學理論與實務It is of great importance for students to have a thorough understanding of various periods of English literature. Ranging from the middle ages to modern literature, English literature offers a wide discussion of poetry, novels, dramas (tragedies and comedies) and literary criticism and theory. Students are required to pay much attention to a lot of studies and then they can benefit a lot from them.
