Syllabus |
Studies in risk management and insurance involve many associated fields. Aspects of management, statistics, finance, micro-economics, optimization, and econometrics are involved in at least 90 percent of these studies. The class plan has to be highly flexible because material from allied fields may need to be reviewed if the students do not have a firm understanding of it. The early classes will be devoted to areas in which review or expansion is needed and to the determination of the areas of interest of the students, so that the material selected for assignments is more or less in line with the interests of the students. After the foundations have been laid, the students will be asked to read papers and interpret them for their classmates in formal presentation in English. As part of the presentations the students will be encouraged to point out the limitations of the studies, any errors in them, and to suggest directions for subsequent work in the field. Each set of presentations will be followed by general discussion. The material may be assigned for additional readings if there are differences of opinion on the interpretation or if there are gaps is the understanding. |
