本課程是日間部四技大一學生的兩學期必修課程。此共同英文課程的具體目標為提升學生各項語文技能：一、聽：能理解日常生活裡人際溝通之英語，並做適當之回應。二、說：能與同儕、友人或教師以英語做真實而有意義的溝通。三、讀：能善加運用英文閱讀策略，了解一般文章的內容大意。四、寫：能以英文語句、段落及文章，清楚而完整地表達意見。 |
Objectives |
This two-semester course is required for all freshmen who are enrolled in the four-year day program. It is a general English course that aims to enhance the main skills in English language learning as follows:Listening: To be able to understand daily conversational English and to respond properly.Speaking: To be able to communicate with classmates, friends, and teachers in English in a natural and meaningful fashion.Reading: To be able to apply various reading strategies in understanding the content of general articles.Writing: To be able to clearly express opinions with various phrases, paragraphs, and articles. |

本課程的設計是針對非英語系的大一學生。我們強調聽說讀寫的學習，但是第一學期會著重閱讀、文法練習及寫作。閱讀及文法的練習為課上加強的重點， 從正確的句子到完整的文章。我們使用的教科書為 American English File Book 2。除了讀寫的技巧，課後討論亦是重點，我們有全英文的討論時間。學生須正常出席並參與課內討論，課程將包括小考及文法練習。未經請假而未出席者成績將會有所影響。 |

Course Description
This course is designed for freshmen who are not English majors. We emphasize on four skills learning--reading, writing, listening and speaking. However, reading and grammar practice will be the focus of the first semester. We study basic grammar and learn how to write a correct sentence from simple, compound to complex sentence. Then, we learn how to write a coherent paragraph and even a complete article. We use American English File Book 2 as our textbook. Aside from skills of reading and writing, discussion will be very important in class. Students are required to attend class regularly and encouraged to participate in-class discussion in English. We have quizzes and writing practice in class. Absence without leave will affect your grades. |
