Objectives |
Day program: This course is required for all sophomores who are enrolled in the four-year day program and students who are enrolled in the two-year day program. It is a general English course that aims to further enhance students’ communication competence and to strengthen their reading skills as well as their understanding in terms of the writing process.
Evening program: This one-semester course is required for all sophomore students who are enrolled in the four-year evening program. The purpose of this course is to further enhance their communication competence. The students will also learn “how to learn English effectively,” which will become a solid foundation for their life-long learning. |

| 教學內容 |
本課程以課本:Reading Pass 2為主，課外閱讀美國作家愛倫坡(Edgar Allen Poe) 的短篇故事為輔。每次上課擬採小組討論方式探討課本單元內容，從學期第三週開始，每星期另有規定的課外閱讀範圍，每次閱讀內容將在下次上課討論，閱讀內容亦列入期中與平時小考範圍。期中考為課堂考試方式進行，期末考由外語中心統一進行會考。學期中總共有六次平時小考，除此之外，同學另需於規定時間登入全民英檢網路測驗平台(http://163.17.24.86/english/index.aspx)完成測驗，登入的紀錄將列為部份平時小考成績。為了鼓勵同學多加利用外語中心的資源自學，規定同學必需到外語中心登入老師指定的網路自學平台(Live ABC英文學習網)閱讀，也歡迎同學多加使用語言中心購置的其他自學平台(詳細請看列表)，期末老師會將同學參加自學或是導航的紀錄列入學期成績的百分之十五。

Syllabus |
This course is mainly based on the text book, Reading Pass 2. In addition to the text book, students have to read the short stories by Edgar Allen Poe in the collection, Tales of Mystery and Imagination (the Oxford Bookworm version). There will be six regular tests in this semester. All the reading assignments (the test book as well as Poe’s short stories) will be included in the regular tests. Part of the regular exam will be held on the platform of GEPT test (http://163.17.24.86/english/index.aspx). Participation in group discussions is required. Students are encouraged not only to get familiar with but also to take good use of the self-learning platforms provided by the Language Center. They are asked to browse the platform, Live ABC, do at least two on-line practices, and choose the topics of their mid-term papers. Other records of self-learning will also be considered. On Nov. 7, students will have the mid-term exam in class. On Jan. 10, students have to attend the final exam held by the Language Center.
