Objectives |
Day program: This course is required for all sophomores who are enrolled in the four-year day program and students who are enrolled in the two-year day program. It is a general English course that aims to further enhance students’ communication competence and to strengthen their reading skills as well as their understanding in terms of the writing process.
Evening program: This one-semester course is required for all sophomore students who are enrolled in the four-year evening program. The purpose of this course is to further enhance their communication competence. The students will also learn “how to learn English effectively,” which will become a solid foundation for their life-long learning. |

本課程的設計是針對非英語系的學生。雖然我們強調聽說讀寫， 但是第一學期的閱讀及文法寫作練習會較多。反之，第二學期， 口語與聽力的練習會較多。我們使用的教科書為Essential Reading Book 1。文法的練習及閱讀技巧為課上加強的重點， 從正確的句子到完整的文章。除了讀寫之外，課後討論亦是重點。我們有日常相關的議題用英文討論。課程將包括小考及文法練習，出席為學期成績的一部份。未經請假而未出席者成績將會有所影響。 |

Course Description
This course is designed for those who are not English majors. Though we emphasize four skills—reading, writing, listening and speaking, we will practice more reading, grammar and writing during first semester, and in turn, we practice more speaking and listening during second semester. We use Essential Reading Book 1 as our textbook, and focus on grammar exercise and reading skills in class, writing from a correct sentence to a whole article. Aside from skills of reading and writing, discussion will be very important in class. We will have some issues related to our daily life for discussion in English. We have quizzes and writing practice in class. Participation is one of semester grades. Absence without leave will affect your grades. |
