| 課程目標 | 此「語言與文化」課程將以語言與文化在人類心理是相互影響的假設為出發。本課程可以幫助語言學習者們瞭解身為文化本體的自己。當人們認知到他們是自己文化的產物，他們便得以準備得更好同時也更願去探究來自其他文化背景的人們之行為，並且更願意不帶判斷地去接受他們，由此希望可以去接受其他人們的語言，在某種程度上，也可以有更高的意願進入另一種有趣的語言和文化探索之旅。 | Objectives | This class in language and culture proceeds on the assumption that language and culture affect one another in the human mind. This course promises to make language learners aware of themselves as a cultural being. Once people recognize that they are products of their own cultures, they are better prepared and more willing to look at the behavior of persons from other cultures and accept them nonjudgmentally, which may, hopefully, bring about the acceptance of other people’s language and a greater willingness to enter, at least to a degree, into what can be the exciting adventure of another language and culture. |

| 教學內容 | 方式：教學內容包含閱讀教科書、文學的選讀、錄影帶的呈現、課堂的補充講義。同時著重在西方不同文化（特別是北美）。考試包括上述內容。 | Syllabus | Approach: Classes will consist of reading in the textbook, lectures, and video excerpts. Supplemental handouts will also be used. Focus of the class will be on various aspects of western (particularly North American) culture. Exams will consist of questions from all of the above. |
