課程目標 這門課旨在概要介紹應用語言學。主要分兩部分，前部分著眼於語言結構與語言使用，內容包含語法、詞彙、言談分析、語用學、語料庫語言學。後部分著眼於應用語言學的基本領域，內容含第二語言習得、心理語言學、社會語言學、語言學習者動機策略。視進度，聽說讀寫等相關語言技能亦將介紹。修習本課程後，學生將有能力從介紹的領域中擇其所好從事進階的應用與研究。 Objectives The graduate course addresses topics in Applied Linguistics. It will be divided into two parts: the first part briefly reviews linguistic structures such as syntax, lexicon, discourse analysis, pragmatics and corpus linguistics, and the second part focuses on topics of applied linguistics such as second language acquisition, psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics, and language teaching. Students interested in the various topics in linguistics will be able to explore them independently when they complete the course.

教學內容 What is Applied Linguistics? Applied linguistics is using what we know about (a)language, (b)how it is learned, and (c)how it is used, in order to achieve some purpose or solve some problem in the real world.
This course is intended to provide a broad overview of Applied linguistics. The wide coverage of applied linguistics is mainly divided into two sections: a description of language and language use, and essential areas of enquiry in applied linguistics. The former includes Grammar, Vocabulary, Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics, Corpus Linguistics. The latter includes Second Language Acquisition, Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, language skills and Focus on the Language learner: Motivation, Styles and Strategies.
