The course explores three major technological innovations in cinema: color, lighting, and sound. Screenings, lectures, and readings are designed to analyze the aesthetic issues raised by the development of these technologies and examine the ways in which sound effects (in tune with voiceover and music), color schemata, and lighting styles function in relationship to questions of plot, theme, and characterization. |
