In the recent years, home-based intervention for infants and children with disabilities has expaned and proliferated. Advances in medical care and a framatic reduction of mortality rates for extremely premature and low-birth-weight infants have increased the number of chilfren at risk for developmental disabilities. For the teacher or nursery, service delivery in the home environment appears to reduce the stress of frequent visits to a center-based program, particularly for large families and families with more than one disabled child. Home-based services also provide consistent, and may be preferred by families because they allow regular, one-on-one communication with service providers. |
