在長期歷史發展的過程中，人類歷經實際經驗和科學實驗。然而，人類的認知不能永遠停留在經驗上，而必須由感性世界邁向理性世界。可幸的是，隨著時代科技的發展，不僅人們對應用科學研究方法的認知提昇，且對科學研究方法學亦進行廣泛而深入的探索和研究。隨著科技的成熟，各領域所使用的研究方法亦趨於一致。這些方法與知識，對於後來的研究工作者而言，若給予適當的指點，使之及早了解科學研究的全部過程，可以減少以自己的經驗在有限的時間內去摸索以下課題：
